Warranty Wise - Car Warranty
Hello everyone,
I was wondering if you would mind offering advice on if I have a leg to stand on or not?
Last October I bought a Peugeot 308 1.6diesel with 27,000miles on. 2014 plate but a very low mileage.
When I bought the car I took out a warranty with warranty wise for £300 at the car dealers.
Skip forward to now.....and my bloomin AdBlue tank has gone, this is very annoying but apparently a common fault with these cars.
Anyway the garage quote me an extortionate amount £1600 to get a completely new tank.
I contacted warranty wise and they say it's not covered as it's under 'emissions' which they have as an add on.
This is infuriating. When I took out the warranty I expected the car to be covered for any major faults, this is a major fault. I paid £300 for a warranty that won't cover a major car fault. So not only will i be down £1600 for AdBlue tank, I'm also down an extra £300 for a useless warranty.
I feel 'emissions' should not be the only category for the AdBlue tank, as it's connected to everything, the fuel, the engine etc, it should be covered under the main parts of the car.
I have replied to their email and grabbed a quote from their website (below) and asked them to review the claim. I feel very hard done by, that such a major part of the car wasn't covered in my main warranty.
“It has been my mission since 2007 to ensure Warrantywise are at the forefront of customer service and provide a product that is clear, transparent and comprehensive. I have the final say (discretion) over repairs and can overturn any decision I don’t think is fair or reasonable and that’s what makes this warranty unique. We use our ‘discretion’ to respond quickly, efficiently and fairly without always having to argue over the small print. I’m constantly reviewing our products and our processes to ensure we abide by these standards every single day.”
I also found the email of the person who made the quote 'Quentin Wilson' and contacted him as well asking him to review the case.
Do you guys think I have a leg to stand on by asking for this review? I feel extremely cheated by warranty wise and indeed Peugeot.
I bought a car that was as eco friendly as it possibly (without going electric) could be purposely to be more climate conscious. And the bit of the car that makes it more eco-friendly has cocked up and cost me a fortune. I'd have been better off financially driving around a 2003 5.0liter range rover as they don't have adblue tanks.
If I can't get anything through warranty-wise do you think it's worth me going to Peugeot with a complaint?

I can’t see Peugeot helping with a nine-year-old car, but it costs nothing to ask.1

I suspect he was just paid a tidy sum to allow the company to use his smiley photo and they wrote a random quote next to it.1 -
Having read many of the Aftersales Warranties it wouls be unusual if it did cover expensive repairs although you could argue that as it is an integral part and not a service item it should be covered. At one time they used to say they did not cover external oil leaks but I had a cistomer who challenged a refusal by going to court. He argued that there was no such thing. An oil leak came from the inside to the outside and the so called *External* oil leak was the result. Unfortunately iot never made it to court as the warranty company backed down as soon as the received the simmons.1

Unfortunately the sole purpose of Adblue is to control the emissions. If they had an add-on for this and clearly excluded it in the T&C's that you signed when taking out the policy then you will struggle to get the warranty to cover it.
What does the AdBlue tank has gone actually mean? This is usually a tank bolted into the boot where the spare wheel would have gone. If it is this that needs replacing, can you not just replace it with one from a scrapped vehicle?0 -

The warranty will only cover what it covers. Peugeot won’t help with a 9 year old car. You need to focus on the problem.
Get a second opinion. Get another quote. Get the part off eBay and ask your neighbour to fit it. Learn how to fit it yourself. Find a company that repairs the tanks. Find someone who can just delete the system from the computer. There are multiple options…1 -
Those warranties tend to have a 'named component' clause - if it aint specifically named, it's not covered.

You need to be very careful with warranties because they generally don't cover anything not spelled out, and will try to weasel out of everything.
If the car works and you just need the error to go away, then you can always take it to a tuning place for an adblue delete. Whilst I'm not sure about the road legality of it, it essentially tells the engine management that the tank is full and operating correctly.

I'm surprised that a 2014 plate has an adblue in the first place as it wasn't a requirement at the time - I had a 2015 plate Mazda that didn't have adblue.0
