Home Insurance on House Purchase

I'm in the process of purchasing a house. I understand that I need buildings insurance from the date of exchanging contracts, as the mortgage lender requires it, but am thinking, longer term, that I would probably need contents insurance as well after moving in.
I currently live in a leasehold flat, so no existing buildings insurance. No contents insurance either (been self insuring through savings, but mortgage deposit is going to hit those savings so will probably need contents insurance going forward)
Would it be better, or more cost effective, to just buy combined buildings/contents cover starting from the day of exchange? Or do I need to buy buildings cover only initially, and add contents cover later?

Often better to have one combined policy, as in the event of a claim situation, you are only dealing with one Insurance company.
In this situation, you normally arrange the Buildings Insurance and then add on the Contents Insurance for when you move in.The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.1
