Is it any benefit to use the same company for gas and electric?

Hi - it makes very little difference to the cost at the moment. If you change to one supplier, it can make the admin easier. If you stick with 2 suppliers you may get offered different fixed "existing customer only" deals so that might be an advantage in leaving things as they are.

It often made sense when fixed deals were always cheaper than the SVT. Generally not the case now, but may be worth considering if and when competitive fixes return.

Fixes I have read about here do seem technically competitive.Competive - defn - "as good as or better than others of a comparable nature"The Ofgem - arguably market de-regulation - allowing underfunded inexperienced suppliers into a high risk market - without a need to back their price promises to customer - has been a disaster - for the minority unable to benefit like me - or those unwilling to switch to do so.This is not the first energy crisis in many of our lifetimes - it probably wont be the last. And a war raging in Europe - so upward price shocks remain a bigger risk than normal.Cornwall insights last spring were actually forecasting right now - 2023 - as the low point over next decade - with non trivial increases to follow. The last one I read - c Jan - much less pessimistic - but showed no rapid collapse to pre crisis levels either. As much as many hoped their would be a rush back to cheap deals - in reality those currently on offer from say Octopus - some on restricted offer like EOn Next loyalty V2/3/4 's - appear very close to - some below - some like Octopus - just above - July SVT rates. There may be little to choose between them - but competitive doesn't mean the same as cheaper.

I have moved into a new build and the gas is with British Gas and Eon for electricity, is there any benefit to changing to just one supplier or does it make no difference?Pricing is still pretty tight - unless want to look into wholesale trackers and tariffs like agile - linked to daily / half hourly wholesale rates etc. - as all SVT deals regulated by Ofgem cap (Octopus iirc discount a couple of % on SC)The only exception to that SVT pricing has been with multirate (E7 style pricing) under the Ofgem cap - but as your gas and electric -that probably doesn't apply. As others have suggested the current fixes I read about here seem very close (and have the same £75 per fuel exit charges) - and close to SVT anyway - so some are waiting / hoping for better - others are locking in now for peace of mind.Customer service is important to many people - but can be variable - but one persons good or bad experience - might not reflect the average - so take a bigger sample.Octupus for instance seems to be well regarded - but still see occasional complaints - and same level in general since expansion ?As far as secondary advantages - some speculate it might for instance make say resolving say a Smart metering problem. iirc something along the lines of if gas meter fails to report - via someone elses electric - who do you contact to resolve etc.As to switching - you might find a bonus / credit applies.Referral DiscountIf you have a friend or relative with another - you might be able to get £50 each via referral codes like Octopus - EOn who you are already with etc) - probably the biggest gain on a single rate electric / gas - SVT switch right now.Any other suppliers offering similar ?
