British Gas Legacy Account Adjustment

Options
I have had £250 debit added to my latest British Gas bill under Legacy Account Adjustment. I'm disabled & on benefits & only just managing to pay my direct debit as it is, at £185pm. Now they say I must pay £220pm, that's nearly a quarter of my monthly income!  What is the LAA and can they do this? I was £35 in credit on last bill but now I'm in debit to them. I've struggled getting answers on the BG website, as it keeps saying technical fault when I've been trying.  I need help.

    Welcome to the forum.
Have you ever been a customer of a company where BG became the Supplier of Last Resort?  Examples include Together Energy, Neon Reef and People's Energy.
Even though I'd left NR long before they went bust, BG repeatedly billed me for some months' usage already paid to am entirely different company.
Every time the only clue was a revised bill that showed a much earlier start date for when I chose to switch to BG.
  • No  I have been with British Gas since 2018/19. I pay direct debit every month & extra payments here & there to clear any deficit. I was 35 in credit on my last bill. The last 2 bills I've received have confused the hell out of me with all the different government payments being credited & uncredited, and now this debit addition on the latest one. They don't make it clear anymore.

Just sent you a mail cuddlycow.

I managed to work out how they did the actual billing on my changeover. It took me ages!

It took THREE billing cycles to correct itself.

Bill 1, the last one on the old System. (It showed a credit of 9 pounds. It also had two weird adjustments.... one was a credit and one was a debit, so I ended up paying 46 pounds more than the actual usage.)

Bill 2, after 3 months and now on the new System.  The Balance at the start of the account was still showing ZERO, so I was still missing the 9 pounds credit off the old system.

But the two weird adjustment were now corrected (reversed) and the 46 pounds was paid back to me.

So I paid 46 pounds less than the energy usage this time.

Bill 3.  the next 3 months. Finally that 9 pounds credit off the old system was given back to me.

    ================================

I have also noticed that they are showing my estimated annual usage on the new system as more than Double what I usually use. 247 percent higher!  But they have not yet changed my Direct debits and left them the same.

Heaven knows why that is happening!

It's British Gas!! I doubt even Heaven has a clue what they're doing.
I escaped from Hell (British Gas) to Heaven (Octopus) in 2021.
