I was looking on a garden furniture website and a pop up appeared to spin the wheel to win a prize.

I won an egg chair, a code appeared and it said to put the code in at checkout. I went to checkout and the code would not populate the egg chair unless I put something else in the basket.

As nothing on the site was what I wanted to buy I then removed the non egg item and the prize egg chair also disappeared.

There is something listed in the t&c’s that say Freebies have to go alongside a purchase yet this is deeply hidden. They conned me into providing my email address in order to spin the wheel for a free egg chair. I feel it is false advertising as no where on that first pop up does it say to see t&c’s. I genuinely thought I could win a free chair.

How should I go about getting my prize? I have sent an email which has not yet had a reply. The site is RattanHut

Everyone "wins" an egg chair, I have tested it ten times in a row, always the same result even with different browsers and IP, always the same code, the same limit on the minimum spend on the basket applies.

The reality is you have not won anything and there is no prize.

You could win a free chair, you just chose not to buy something else so weren't eligible.

At what point did you hand over your email address?  Before or after the terms were available?  If handing over your email address concerns you, just unsubscribe or ask them to remove your address from their records.

There are always T&Cs with these things but as you've discovered they are often well hidden and the main advertisement is a hook to draw you in and get you to buy something. I'd forget about it personally as it seems designed to get some money from you without any great promise of any benefit to you.

I'm sure that the company's sole director and shareholder (Ali Osmani, age 19) cares deeply about your concerns.

Or you could pay them a visit at their supposed business address, and see whether you can pick them out among the 5,273 other companies which are at that postcode.

Or use the online dispute resolution service they link to in their terms, which is the EU Commission one. So maybe Bury St Edmunds managed to opt out of Brexit?
