Hi sorry, I've been away on a course for a few days.

Thank you for all your replies.

What I didn't say was that when all this began (when my mum was in the last few weeks of her life) a transcript of a call between the scammer (stating they were me) and an ebay rep was emailed to me- which I didn't see/open sadly. This states that the scammer is having trouble updating a new bank account to my account (theirs) and they had changed email address. The ebay rep stated in the transcript that they would manually override this and the scammer could change his/her bank details whilst the rep was speaking to them.
The scammer stated they didn't have them to hand and could it be done later- to which the rep said yes.

This was the Halifax account (I've never banked with them) the camera was then listed 10 times.

The £6129.48 debt I suposidly owe is made up of £2289.52 which is ebay fees, and £3839.96- this total is 4 times £959.99 (listing price of the camera)

For some of the sales I can see that ebay has recovered £959.99 from the said Halifax account ending in XXX, and other sales it looks like they have tried to recover the £959.99 and failed.

When I realised what was happened on one of my several calls to ebay I managed to get this persons name & Halifax bank details off my account by basically going through the same process as they did to get their details on there- hence why on the last request for payment for the debt they had my account (wish I'd nver done that now)

I have no idea how my account was comprimised, no person I know has access to any of my devises or accounts

Yes- it was reported a few weeks ago to Action Fraud

Yes I have screen prints of everything, and yes I'll just sit tight now.

Oh & yes CAB Consumer helpline did say go to the SCC but firstly discuss with the ICO (which I havent done)

In that case I'd suggest getting in touch with one of the financial advice columns in a newspaper. They'd probably be interested in the story and would get it all cancelled for you.
You could try doing it yourself if you don't want the hassle or if the newspaper doesn't respond, I'd suggest getting on Twitter and tagging @ebaynewsroom and @askebay with a limited information Tweet, along the lines of "My account was compromised and bank details changed after someone posing as me fraudulently contacted one of your advisers. You are now asking for thousands of pounds from me due to your own failings. Can you assist before I contact the media?". You need to keep it polite and succinct without giving too much info on the tweet.

    Great idea- thank you.

I have Googled the Cheif Exec's of Ebay.co.uk, and emailed them- no response!

The media departments are usually the quickest to respond in any big company as you seem to have a fairly clear case that Ebay are, at the very least, partly culpable they'll want to shut it down as soon as possible.
I recently updated bank details on Amazon and they (very) temporarily closed my account for suspected fraudulent activity, I had to call and verify details before they'd switch my account on and then I have to wait 3 working days before I can start transferring funds. The idea that Ebay would just change it on live chat is crazy.
