Netgear Router Wired to Wireless

I currently have a Netgear DG834 wired router because I have a main PC that is connected directly one of its ethernet ports. I am very happy with it as it is very fast to power up and is very easy to configure - and have "tweaked" the settings for my LAN.

A few months ago my wife bought a new laptop to help her in her business. On an evening she connects to the router via a spare port and sends her emails and documents and also performs updates.

The laptop has a built in wireless connection, so, the question is:-

Is is cheaper and better to get a new wireless router or is there a plug in device ( Wireless Access Point ?? ) that can provide a wireless signal through my existing router ?

  • It's better/neater/easier to get a dg834G, or there are alternative cheaper brands available. A lot of ISP's give them away nowadays as part of the package
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

Ok - Just thought I'd give a quick update.

Took the advice from albertross and bought a Netgear DG834G Router off eBay for £25 including P&P ( Brand New )

Backed up my current config ( DG834 ), turned on the new router and updated the firmware and loaded my old config. Internet back up in a couple of minutes. Next, set the wireless mode the WPA-PSK ( Generated a unique SSID and randomly typed in a 31 character key ) and turned off Broadcast SSID and turned on Wireless Mode.

At the laptop - running Vista - turned on the Wireless Mode, set the SSID and copied the key ( Via memory-stick ).

Result = wireless connection in minutes. :T
