NHS employment

I retired in 2015 aged 59 and took my NHS pension. That year I had 45 years of full NI contributions and now have 5 years when I did not contribute enough. Had I been told to still pay NI contributions I would have paid voluntarily but I was never advised to do so. I now have a lower state pension, albeit would have been lower as I was contracted out due to NHS pension. Any advice

No, you have the same State Pension you were originally entitled to/expecting having paid reduced rate of NI for many years.

You now have the opportunity to add to that with what is probably one of the best investments money can buy.  Despite the fact it dies with you!

You are a definite winner under the transitional rules.

How much have State Pension have you accrued to date (full amount including pence)?

Are all post 2016 years available to buy?

Which tax year do you reach State Pension age in?

So you have 5 years available to fill.  How much exactly, £££.pp, is your current weekly pension?

You were advised to pay on this very web site when you asked in Feb 2019.

You pay for advice, who did you employ to provide it?

Did you reach SPA after 5 April 2021?

You do look to be a big winner under the new system.

You were given lots of advice to pay back in 2019. Why did you not do it?

In your previous thread you said that you received pre-retirement advice, but you retired in 2015 which is before the pension rules were changed. So it's perhaps not surprising that the effects of changes that hadn't happened weren't discussed in detail.
In fact that topic was also discussed in your previous thread.
Nobody here can give you 'advice' since that term has a particular meaning in this context. But the suggestions to buy some past years still stand. If you look at which are cheapest to buy now and choose enough years you can inrease your pension as far as the 'full' new rate. The choice is yours.
  • My concern is why could I not have continued to pay NI on my only income of my NHS Pension?

Because pension income doesn't attract NI.
