I retired in 2015 aged 59 and took my NHS pension. That year I had 45 years of full NI contributions and now have 5 years when I did not contribute enough. Had I been told to still pay NI contributions I would have paid voluntarily but I was never advised to do so. I now have a lower state pension, albeit would have been lower as I was contracted out due to NHS pension. Any advice

You now have the opportunity to add to that with what is probably one of the best investments money can buy. Despite the fact it dies with you!
You are a definite winner under the transitional rules.
How much have State Pension have you accrued to date (full amount including pence)?
Are all post 2016 years available to buy?
Which tax year do you reach State Pension age in?1 -
I qualified for my state pension in 2021 when I was 66 and which I now receive. At no time was I advised by anyone tp continue paying NI0

So you have 5 years available to fill. How much exactly, £££.pp, is your current weekly pension?

You were advised to pay on this very web site when you asked in Feb 2019.2

Did you reach SPA after 5 April 2021?
You do look to be a big winner under the new system.0 -

misuel1955 said:I never got any advice. I qualified for SPA in November 2021. I was part of the WASPI who never received any letters telling us we would not qualify for State Pension until we were 66. We were only made aware when we checked our State Pension forecast. However, the current Pension service were most helpful today when I enquired about topping up my State pension which I am already receiving as the Future Pension Service is not applicable to meYour previous thread in February 2019 was full of lots of information and guidance on how to improve your state pension if you wished and yet you have ignored all of it.6

In your previous thread you said that you received pre-retirement advice, but you retired in 2015 which is before the pension rules were changed. So it's perhaps not surprising that the effects of changes that hadn't happened weren't discussed in detail. In fact that topic was also discussed in your previous thread.Nobody here can give you 'advice' since that term has a particular meaning in this context. But the suggestions to buy some past years still stand. If you look at which are cheapest to buy now and choose enough years you can inrease your pension as far as the 'full' new rate. The choice is yours.0

My concern is why could I not have continued to pay NI on my only income of my NHS Pension?0
-
Because pension income doesn't attract NI.0
