PPI Tax reclaim using non-R40 route.

Has anyone tried to obtain a tax refund without using the R40 form? I have to complete a Self Assessment due to a small French pension so I cannot use the R40 form.
I received a PPI refund from Black Horse bank but it doesn't show any mention of tax deducted ( or due ). It was organised by Ingenious Legal to whom I paid their fee(s) and who have subsequently disappeared into the Ether. The invoice from Ingenious does not mention any tax due or claimable.
The PPI refund was for £671, so not a massive amount, and I am tempted to just forget about reclaiming the tax on my SA form. Anything for a simple life.
Any comments on whether it is worth persuing this? Tax is not my strong subject....

If no tax was deducted, there is no tax to be refunded.1

PPI refunds aren't taxable and don't have tax deducted from them.
Statutory interest paid alongside the PPI refund is taxable and does have tax deducted.
If you don't have the figures available then how will you either complete the return, amend an already submitted return or make a claim for overpayment relief 🤔.
Although that does beg the question have you already filed an incorrect return by failing to declare some taxable interest?1
