Clothing damaged after 4 hours wear

Hello everyone,
I hope you can help! I purchased this item of clothing (dungarees) yesterday at a shop in a little seaside town we were visiting. Today I've decided to wear the item, and have probably been wearing for 4-5 hours whilst sat at home studying at my desk and just general pottering about. I've gone to get changed and noticed that there is a huge tear in the fabric at the top of the pocket- not on a seam etc just crudely across the fabric! I haven't put anything in the pockets and havent caught myself on anything, so of course am confused, not to mention disappointed. Especially considering I spent £85 on them.
Of course I can't prove anything here but I wondered where I stood with perhaps contacting the brand to ask for them to look into this? I hate confrontation so I'm a bit worried about going back into the shop! Silly I know . Thanks for any help!

Suspect they will say you caught it on something, which to be honest is the most likely cause.1

I agree with the above.
A person would have to decide what's most likely, you not noticing a big tear in the fabric, or you not noticing catching it on something.
If it was a seem coming apart that would be totally different.
Let's Be Careful Out There0 -
Most of us here would suggest that you take it back to the shop where you bought it and politely and calmly discuss your findings with the shopkeeper. That is not in any way confrontational.
You could of course contact the manufacturer if you wish but what do you mean by 'ask them to look into this'?
They are likely to say that they are proud of their quality standards and all garments are carefully inspected throughout the manufacturing and despatch process.1 -
I tend to agree, you have caught that and not noticed , a door handle , drawer handle0

@girlinabox I think your topic title sums the issue up correctly, it certainly does look like accidental damage rather than a manufacturing fault.0

It's not a seam, or other area which would have stress applied to it, so accidental damage certainly seems the most likely cause. It seems odd that you didn't notice the damage either in the shop, or when you put them on at home as that is a substantial tear.I suspect that the shop would take the same view and assume you had caught it on something at home.0

It looks like it's been damaged and the most likely cause is you have caught it on something. It might have been damaged in the shop - a knife on unpacking for example - but damage that size you surely would have noticed?
Manufacturer certainly won't be able to help you so it's either a case of sucking it up or going back to/calling the shop and explaining the situation and seeing what they say but I suspect they will say that it's been caused by you.0 -
It looks like something caught the corner at the top of the triangle and the fabric tore down two sides..
Is the pocket on the back or the front?
Could something on your chair have caaght on the corner.0 -
