Phone number on Google

A few days ago I put a new (second) sim in my phone and today, I received a confirmation message from google advising me that my new phone number has been added to my google account.  Not only that, but also that it's been verified.  As I haven't informed google of my new number, I am very intrigued as to how google knew of my new phone number.  I can only suspect that my new sim provider could have sent details to google, but I'm not even sure of that.  Does anyone know?  I thought I would have to set up my new phone number on my google account.  When I signed into my account, the main phone number is still showing up as my old number.

    Frightening rather than amazing. B)

Exactly, people are giving so much data away they don't realise how it all links and where all the little bits of information
soon tells your entire life story.

Youtube video by the BlackBeltBarrister,  He was looking to purchase an item and through tracking cookies etc. they found out his
personal details, his works details AND his wifes details.  The actual data available is probably far deeper than that and
people are happy to share that.

eg.  Even though you turn tracking off Facebook are still tracking you.  And when they mention testing something publicly you
know they already have that in progress secretly testing it.
