Coop members cashback credit card

Does anyone have any experience of this? Does the app work ok? Can you pay bill using debit card? Cashback amount seems relatively decent, but it doesn't get mentioned much. Is there a reason why?

I really like my Amex card, but I'm struggling to use it at times. Even though it's accepted at more places, there's still a lot of places I can't use it. Thinking it would be easier to have one card I can use everywhere.

  • It offers 0.5% cashback when used in Co-op stores - and 0.3% elsewhere.
Better off with a Chase debit card , if you can afford to have the necessary funds on it, where your Amex is not accepted - it pays 1%.

From what I've heard/read, the Co-Op bank app and online banking is a bit behind the times.

Agree with the poster above about Chase. However, if you want a credit card, you might also want to consider Barclaycard Rewards. It pays slightly less cashback (0.25%), but it doesn't charge fees when using abroad, so it's a good choice when going on holiday.

You're probably better off with a 0% on purchases card, and sticking the money you'd otherwise pay it off with in one of the many savings accounts paying decent interest
I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?

I can confirm having a Coop card and using the app that it is the poorest of the apps I have used. However don't let that put you off if the card is what you want - their customer service is good and call centre is UK based.

Thank you all. I've had good customer service from Amex, but now I'm working from home and not spending £100 a month on petrol, it feels more uncertain I'll reach the £3000 spend required. Also, just yesterday I used my card and was then told by the cafe they don't accept Amex. The payment went through though and now they have to sort it out somehow or they don't get that money. Then in a shop the Amex symbol showed on the machine so I tapped and it failed as they don't accept it. Am starting to feel quite embarrassed having to ask or be declined, so one good card that is accepted everywhere seems like less hassle. I have Barclaycard Avios, but really would prefer cash than points.

0% card and getting interest on the amount in savings sounds tempting, but I like clearing the decks every month, don't like the idea of having debt sitting around.

May I recommend the Barclaycard Avios card, which offers 1 Avios per £.

If, like me, you don't fly then you can convert each point for 0.66p worth of Nectar points. 0.66% flat rate on a free Mastercard is impossible to beat if you're OK with the caveat of only being able to spend what you earn at Sainsbury's, Argos or Ebay*.

    * there are other redemption routes but these are the simplest as they all simply accept Nectar as a method of payment

I believe you have to be a coop member too. Does that mean you qualify if you have a card from your local coop as there are many different societies around the country.

Sorry, forgot to add is the cashback transferred to your current account or paid as credit on your card account.

I had a right game applying for this card.

During the application process you select your desired credit limit up to £7500 so I chose the max. Within an hour I received an email stating they were reviewing my application, the wording suggested it was being manually reviewed but it didn’t outright say so. About an hour later I received further email to confirm I was successful.

Never heard anything for about 5 days until I received mail in the post stating they’d offered me £1000 credit limit and if I wanted to be considered for a higher limit they wanted paper copies of my wage slips, last three months bank account statements, and copies of statements from other credit card companies with a £7500 or higher limit. There was also a credit agreement / contract to sign and date and return. I did all this within 48 hours.

Never heard anything for two weeks so I telephoned them, they said they had no record of my application ! This is despite me having various reference numbers but I was simply not on their records. I was told my only option was to apply again. I didn’t bother.

About 4 weeks later I received a text stating my application had now expired. I didn’t bother pursuing it as I’d lost the patience,

No credit check was ever done against any of the CRAs.

in hindsight I’m glad/relieved it all went wrong as I’ve not heard good things about their app either.
    Best Regards,
