calendar or sharing events between family members

We are probably behind the curve for some people but we have come to the conclusion that we need some way of either sharing a calendar on our phones or creating events and adding dding in each other as we have recently almost missed some things due to misunderstandings, mismatches between written kitchen calendars and post it notes etc.

I have an android phone with a gmail account - my wife has an iPhone (Apple id is through an old ntlworld email address but she does have a Gmail account that we dont use day to day)

My question is a general q to anyone reading this on what you think may be the best general direction to go in.

Ideally I would add a calendar event on my phone and include my wife as an 'attendee' and have it also pop up on a calendar in her iphone - ditto the reverse, she can add an event to her Apple iPhone calendar and if required, include my email address.

Im guessing Gmail is the common factor here but wondering if anyone has any suggestions that worked for them.

Just share one Google Calendar and add that to the other person's calendar.  You should then be able to see, add and edit as you see fit.

You can create additional shared calendars in Google so nobody needs to share their 'main' calendar.
