Strange that this has come out of the blue. The only dealings with Standard Life are possibly an old life or accident insurance. Would this generate shares?masonic said:My reading of that letter is that wmb194's original suspicion was correct and this has nothing at all to do with Royal Mail shares, and refers to a separate Abrdn shareholding.0 -
Hi,you'd be best to contact the registrars of both companies to get things clarified.1

The only dealings with Standard Life are possibly an old life or accident insurance. Would this generate shares?Yes - relative received free shares as a result of holding a life policy with SL.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_LifeIn March 2017, Standard Life reached an agreement to merge with Aberdeen Asset Management, in an all-share merger, subject to shareholder approval.[20] It was announced that the merged company was to be named Standard Life Aberdeen.[21] This was achieved by Standard Life being renamed Standard Life Aberdeen on 14 August 2017.[22]
2018 - 2021[edit]
In 2018, Phoenix Group Holdings plc acquired Standard Life from Standard Life Aberdeen plc for £2.9 billion.[23]
In May 2021, Phoenix Group acquired the 'Standard Life' brand [24] and in July 2021 Aberdeen Standard Life Group companies rebranded as ‘abrdn’.[25]
But it seems very strange that you should only now have realised that you own shares in abrdn,

I have spoken to abrdn who could not find OH's details on their system by searching his name, address and postcode. I then spoke to Equiniti who said they had not been informed by Royal Mail that OH had left the company, which is why we have had no paperwork regarding selling or transferring.
I think that someone at abrdn has made an innocent input error by misspelling the email address and sent this to us in error. Shame we do not have a bundle of unknown shares, but at least the mystery seems to have been solved.
Again, thanks for all who responded.3
