    Update…
Deleted the Kestrel Viewer app in full of my iPhone 11 (iOS 16.5), Rebooted iPhone, reinstalled the app. Still the same issue. The splash screen loads for Username/Password etc, but NON of the field values are clickable.

To further test I’ve installed the app on an old IPhone 6 (IOS 12.5.7) and it seems to work fine, in that once the app splash screen has loaded ALL the field values to enter UN/PW, local login, settings work fine. I just need to remember my cloud logins for the app to see if I can get it fully working.

For me, something must have changed on my IPhone 11 (IOS 16.5) in the last few days for the app interface to stop working. I’m guessing Apple security update or similar.

If you have the same issue as me stop fault finding on your NVR, try the app on an older device, or roll back your Samsung operating system if it allows it?. I know I cant as easily do that on iPhone.
    Thanks John.
We told them a couple of weeks ago that the app didn’t work on my son’s new mobile. He couldn’t even download it because it said it needed an older version of android! They said his mobile was the problem not their app which hasn’t been updated for 3 years!
It was annoying but it worked on all our other tablets and mobiles so we left it.
Now it works on none of them.
I think their customer service department will be very busy on Monday morning.

  • Morning all, there are other ways to connect to your CCTV that avoid the Kestrel relay server for the P2P - if you are on the same network as the NVR then you should be able to use the "local login" option on the app to access the CCTV via your phone/tablet, etc.

It also appears from screenshots you can enable external access using UPnP and DDNS so you can directly access the CCTV from outside your home network without using the company relay - but please use a very secure username/password for this. I wouldn't normally recommend this type of access to CCTV unless you know a bit about securing networks but can be used in the event their relay server is down as it is now.

Having said that, the app isn't secure either, will be interesting when it is online for me to capture the username/password on the network traffic.

This type of CCTV seems to be stuck in the dark ages of technology and security-wise.

Thank for all your feedback and testing on this tallmansix. I have touched on wire shark in the past, mainly sip/voip traces, so familiar with your testing & feedback. Thanks for going the extra mile on this.
Ive still have the issue of the app not wanting to respond to inputs on iPhone 11 IOS 16.5, but works fine for local login on the iPhone 6.
The wife has the same iPhone 11 IOS 16.5 too, so I’ll try the app in that to further test.
On the NVR I also have the same “connection failed” to the P2P server, so 100% like you said the remote server is down.
Be interesting if the app starts to respond once the P2P server is sorted.
  • Been waiting all weekend to be approved, I’m also having issues. Hopefully the server will be sorted today
  • Try again everyone!

I put an uptime alert on the broken API over the weekend and it is now showing as up again.

Yeah the P2P in the NVR interface is now showing as “Connected” and interestingly the App on my IPhone 11 is now responsive. I just need to remember my cloud login details now HA. Thanks again for the support.
  • Hi, I've been using the Kestrel app for a number of years and this is quite common for their app to go down. Give it a few days/ 1 week and it will be back up and running. Mine is also not loading on my phone and when I go to log in it says failed. Checked my partners phone last night and it's doing the same. If I remember correctly, it was this time last year the app went down but after a week max, it was back up and working again
  • Hi again everyone. I’m not able again to load my app. Almost 12 months to the day that it happened last year. Hopefully sorted soon
