Currently there is a standing gas oven+hob. Because we are removing the gas, we are also removing the oven+gas.

If there is an electric supply in this place for both the hob and the oven (or if it can be easily added, e.g. if you have suspended floor with crawling space underneath), then you can remove the existing oven, add a piece of worktop and a shelf between the old units and install temporarily your new appliances. That was what my friend did when his old range cooker died. New induction hob and modern fan oven made his wife happy.

Yeah, we are having a full rewire done, and they are adding a supply for an electric oven for us. Can an integrated fan oven be simply placed on a shelf?

Yes, that's how they are normally installed (plus few non-essential screws).

Ok I assume it was a shelf dedicated for an oven like this:

Have a look at table top induction hobs - You can get small two ring units that don't take up a lot of space. Once you have experienced induction, you may not want to go back to ceramic/halogen/wot-ever.

Yes I will need to do some research about induction. I've used them at a friends house. Can you still use cast iron on them?
Cast iron works well with induction. Glass pans don't work. and neither do aluminium or copper unless they have a steel insert in the base. Look for this little symbol on a pan (or its packaging) when buying new ones -
What Is Induction Cooking PC Richard Son (or similar).

Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

No, it was a piece of laminated worktop, but only because of the big span between the units. Otherwise it would probably be a usual furniture board. I don't think the shelf has to be metal, but it's worth putting the oven on two wooden planks to create a small air gap at the bottom - check the installation manual. Some random one from the internet - https://media3.neff-international.com/Documents/9001629451_C.pdf - p.40.

My suggestion, which I see you've considered, would be an air fryer and a worktop 2-ring hob.
    It's also barbie weather...

If the new kitchen will be in a different room, keep the existing gas oven and hob in the old kitchen until the new kitchen is ready and only then get the gas removed.  Avoids trying to find temporary solutions and spending money on them.

That is also a nice idea but the gas line has already been removed.

Well my wife just informed me the gap left by the previous gas stove is only 50cm and not 60cm like I assume. So instead we will look for a 2nd hand electric stove, or go with the portable hob + air fryer route.

50cm is a common width for freestanding ones, so you should be able to find something
