If I defer my SP for 12 months can I still claim carers allowance for my son?

I do not work. I have a small personal pension of £385 per month.
I claim carers allowance for my son and have been informed that when I claim my SP I can no longer claim carers allowance. If I defer my SP for 12 months (or 18 months), can I still claim carers allowance during that time?
At the end of 12 months (or 18 months) can I claim my deferred SP in a lump sum? Will I get any interest?
TIA

You might be better posting on the Benefits board re Carers Allowance.Daffodil57 said:I do not work. I have a small personal pension of £385 per month.

As for State Pension there is no "lump sum" possible if you reach SPA after 5 April 2016.
But I believe you can backdate your claim by a year and in that situation you will receive the State Pension owed for that year all in one go (this is not a deferral "lump sum" though as that is very specific thing with special tax rules).
However if you did that I suspect you would encounter the same (potential) issue with Carers Allowance for that 12 month period.
No interest is paid if you defer State Pension but your weekly amount increases if you defer it for long enough.

You can still get the Carers Allowance but because you are receiving it deferring won’t add to your pension.
I claim CA for my son and I didn’t defer because there was no point. My State pension starts next month and I have had a letter to say that I will still have underlying entitlement to CA. Underlying entitlement might help if you are able to claim pension credit.0
