I only have a CPS barrister not a high ranking KC like rumpole of the bailey.
My fiancee has kindly offered to hire a top notch KC but why should he I do not expect him to even though he can afford to..
Only someone who has been through what I have can truly understand.
I didn't want any unkind comments I will have enough from my former husband's family when I get to court.

The link above explains the role of the CPS.
It says they will explain to you what happens.
If they haven't, you should contact them and ask.
They are there to help you.
There is even a 'victim's guide' on there.

I am sure that anybody who hasn't been through this can't imagine how awful it is/was.
You've had a reply detailing a real life experience from someone who has been through it.

I don't think you've had any unkind comments.
I just think - like Longwalker - that you'll get better information from the professional people who should be supporting you than from random strangers on t'interweb.

I wish you luck during this trying time and hope justice prevails.

Of course ji want justice to be served.
To me that is a custodial sentence I want him to feel some fear like I did every day and still do.
I have convinced myself that my ex brother in law will offer to pay a large fine to avoid his older brother getting jailed.
He is a loud mouthed show off who thinks he is above me.
I'm sure he will offer the CPS or one of the police detectives in charge of my case a back hander.

It’s probably far more healthy if you don’t expect this as an outcome. Unless you’re talking severe physical abuse it’s unlikely he’ll get a custodial sentence.

Just go to court, have your day and just accept whatever happens will happen.

    Genuine question:
Is this even possible in a case brought by CPS?

Justice is what the court decides is appropriate.
I agree with Gavin83 - don't set your expectations of the outcome too high.

Any offer of a bribe may result in your ex BIL being in serious trouble.

Just let justice take its course.

And do look at the link to CPS that I have given you up-thread.

Victims (or their loved ones) are perfectly free to hire expensive barristers to support them and advise them throughout the trial. They wouldn't work directly on the prosecution's case though. As the name implies, the Crown Prosecution Service works for the Crown, not the victim.
That said, if the victim of a crime was rich enough to hire KCs, I suspect the CPS would be putting their very best people on the case.

    Call your local IDVA service

The national helpline should sign post your to domestic abuse support services. And IDVA can support you in court

    https://www.nationaldahelpline.org.uk

Or try your local Women's Aid

The CPS barrister who will be representing me in court phoned me this morning.
They wanted to speak to me about a incident when my wrist was broken and he stopped me going hospital for 5 days after it happened.
It was a bad colles fracture and I was in a lot of pain.
    It happened in late 2006.
Will the hospital still have records?.
