PIP claim can just be withdrawn or no action taken so automatically closed. Happens all of the time, with no consequences.

It is only where someone puts in a claim, then does not take part in the assessment, the claim closes and they try to claim again.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

Sorry for being away for a few days. All of your guys' time, input and advice has been truly helpful and I'm very grateful!

I've read, thought about and thanked every reply since I last posted. I agree with those of you who have said that my advisor means well but I have decided to rescind my PIP claim. I think the best way to do this is by calling the number the PIP people gave me when I made my claim and telling them I don't want to pursue it at this time (rather than doing nothing). So this issue is more or less closed for me

I'll thank my advisor and give her my reasons. I'm really bad at 'opening up', like, even a little bit (or even verbalising most of the time - people with bad enough anxiety will get what I mean). Besides, I've got 2 or 3 more pressing issues that I'm eager to focus on. Debt management being one, which is on my Work Plan

Just as a final question - and it's not a biggie or anything - I was told you can only 'try' for PIP once a year (I think year). Will this affect that?

Anyway, once again, thanks for everything!

I have never heard any such rule. (Who told you?)
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

Sadly, unlike in the USA, the UK government doesn’t currently recognise emotional support animals with any type of certification or accreditation

ESAs aren't recognised but Assistance Dogs are, and can be owner-trained.  There's a bit of info here https://www.adolescentdogs.com/assistancedogs

I'd imagine the reference to 'support dog' was due to the work coach's lack of knowledge, just like with applying for PIP.

(Incidentally ESAs in the US haven't the same public access rights as Assistance Dogs either, the classification is mostly to exempt them from 'no pets' rules in housing, and they are prescribed by a medical professional.  The classification no longer exempts them from 'no pets' rules on planes which was the only other distinction between them and pets.)

    But

    1. Will my dog become a registered assistance dog? There is no official registration or certification for assistance dogs in the UK. As long as your dog is well trained and mitigates your disability, you are covered by the Equality Act 2010.  Some organisations such as airlines & universities may require your dog to be registered with ADUK or specific charities ; but please note, this is not legal and they are breaking the law by requesting for your dog to be registered. Our programme does not offer any official 'registration' or 'certification'. However, airlines such as British Airways are sometimes open to receiving proof of training which we can provide.  If you don't live in the UK, you will need to check your local laws - but you may still find our training support useful for your own individual training journey
