Selling leased car to unrelated third party - help?

I had a VW Golf from VW on lease, at the end of the lease about a month earlier maybe they give me option of a friend etc buying it, the price was already on the online account where I used to give mileage updates.

He made them a payment a few days before my lease ended and they sent him the v5 etc, I handed him the car and keys it was all very straightforward.

He got a 3 year old 2.0 tdi150 30k on clock fsh for about 10500 this was 2016.

I got no fees and charges for minor marks.

The lease company didn’t need to collect or pay auction fees. 

It worked well for all of us.
