Faulty car, big dealership, wanting to use warranty

    The fact that the garage are not prepared to repair the car when the fault was reported on the day you bought it would encourage me to reject the car.  

    Stress you are not returning it for repair under the warranty. You are returning it under  your short term right to reject.

    Do not be fobbed off.

    i did feel like they’re missing the point but wasn’t sure how to articulate it so that’s great

    the salesman replied to me saying ‘I was sold a faulty car’ with ‘I didn’t sell it you’- the kind of attitude I’m dealing with. I’m finding it hard to stick to the main points and not be sidetracked!

    I would go back & say that what would they have done if you did not take out a extra warranty?
    Then mention you want to reject.

    If they are still not agreeing email the General Manager.

    As others have said, you reported the fault on Day1 and they would be responsible for fixing that, warranty or no warranty.  Is the place you purchased from still Evans Halshaw as the one near us has been rebranded as CarStore?  How did you pay for the car?

    i would reject it, they shouldnt be using your warranty

    on a side note is a 2016 X1 really worth 20k


    there was a deal for a brand new Octavia on HUKD today for 22k

    I know it’s a different car but I know which one I would prefer
  • Good luck with Evans Halshaw. They are an absolute cowboy outfit. I took my car in for its first MOT and they claimed it needed a new seat frame as the weld has broke. It wasn't, it did have a missing screw for some reason but it was safe and shouldn't of failed. The hassle I had from this has been horrendous. I had a senior sales person threaten me which I had to report to the police.

    I would not touch them with a barge pole. Get your money back now and never return back to any of their dealerships

    You will never like this car. Reject it before its too late. I have an opinion on EH, which I will keep to myself. But that should tell you all you need to know.

    Also, if they tell you its okay to use the warranty and it won't have an impact on you or the policy, then reply and tell them you will ring the warranty company to check this - which of course will require you to lay out what is it the dealer is trying to do here.

    As a single woman, I've also had problems with used car dealers in the past thinking they could pull the wool over my eyes. They were mistaken.

    You do have rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and if you let EH know that you are aware of that fact they may try to be a bit more obliging. 

    If they act unfairly, you can always tweet about them. Or post something on Facebook, they don't like that.

    Way back in the past I was told that once a car hits the 5 year old mark, it depreciates faster than ever and that's when all the problems really start. If yours is 7 now, I'd want to return it for a full refund. You don't need a BMW. Just get something reliable, environmentally friendly and comfy. You can get some lovely cars for much less than £20k. Although I know sometimes people want to have a 'swanky' car, they're usually the ones that are targeted by vandals most. 

    Tell them you want all your money back and just thank goodness that you have had a lucky escape.
