Fixed Outgoing Octopus tariff question
Hi - Octopus's customer services seems to have gone a bit wobbly (or I'm being daft) so I'm hoping someone here can clear up a confusion for me:
1. I applied for the Fixed Outgoing Octopus tariff as described on this web page: https://octopus.energy/export-tariffs/
2. I got an email saying "I can see that you have smart meters and are on the Agile tariff, which means that we don't require regular meter readings."
3. I wasn't sure whether they were referring to Agile for import (which would be correct) or Agile for export (which would be wrong) so I queried it by asking "When you say you can see I'm on Agile, could you confirm that you mean I'm on Agile for import and that I'll be on the fixed rate for export?"
4. The answer has just come back as "I can confirm that you are on Agile for import and that you'll be on the Flexible Octopus rate for export." Which doesn't really answer my question as there's no reference that I can see for a Flexible Octopus rate for export in relation to Fixed Outgoing Octopus. So I've asked the question again:
"Your website refers to a tariff called "Fixed Outgoing Octopus"
which has a rate of 15p and is what I applied for. Here is the page I am
looking at:
You
are now referring to a "Flexible Octopus rate for export". Does that
mean the same thing? Or to put it another way, am I on what the website
calls "Fixed Outgoing Octopus" with a rate of 15p/kWh or am I on
something different?"
Where's the confusion here? Happy to accept it's me and I've missed something (wouldn't be the first time
) but can't see what it is? Or is this just a customer services agent have a bit of a wobble and not understanding my question and/or using different words to say the same thing (or something like that)?

I'll see what they come back with but in the mean time can anyone shed any light on where the confusion is?
Thanks, Mike

Octopus can use some very strange terminology. Outgoing Fixed is not actually fixed: the export rate varies depending on which import tariff you are on. For example, if you were on a standard import tariff then you would get 15p/kWh for export. If you then switched to Go, then the Outgoing Fixed rate would be reduced to 4.1p/kWh.
Two options: one, ring Octopus and check
or, 2, wait until your tariff information is updated in the App. It will show the tariff rate you are on.

I don't think you can be on Agile for import and outgoing fixed at 15p.
I haven't read it for a while but it basically says that the two are not compatible, having your cake and eating it.
Check the website, it's on there.
This is from my memory, best to check for yourself.1 -

Thanks - I've seen references on the website to not being able to combine Outgoing Octopus with an EV tarriff but nothing about having to have Outgoing Octopus Agile for export if you have it for import. Guess I'll have to wait and see what they say.

Yes you can be on Agile for supply and Fixed Outgoing. I had those options before I went on Flux (which is both in and out)Barnsley, South Yorkshire

You cannot be on Go or IO and SEG 15p/kWh at the same time. The SEG rate is reduced to 4.1p/kWh.1

I also opted for fixed outgoing and then went for flux which works better for me 22.98 / 36.58 / 9.39 for export, 33.98 / 47.58 / 20.39 import. Mid rates /16-19 hrs high/ 02-05 hrs low. At this time of year my exports tend to be 1200-1900. Not sure it will be better from October though, I may have to re-investigate later.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Hopefully this may help, as there is no 4.1p version of Outgoing Fixed, that would be Outgoing SEG,but yes it is all a bit confusing at times...So those are the 3 options:SEG for those who are with Octopus on an EV tariff or those not with Octopus at all for import.Fixed Outgoing for those wanting a flat rate, typical those with little ability to determine when they will export, so no local storage, and not available to those on an Octopus EV tariff, or those without an Octopus import tariff. Then finally you have Agile Outgoing which varies the rate in half-hour segments throughout the day.0
