    They can't force you to and the whole point of it being "independent" is that they are giving a professional opinion independent of who's instructed them etc.

    Obviously there is a conflict of interests as reports that get higher rewards could result in more repeat business. As a defendant we did have a list of doctors we were really not happy with but it was a relatively modest list given how many doctors there are. I'll keep repeating though... each case is different and your solicitor will be better placed to advise on your personal case.
