According to a repair man coming round to look at our Samsung freezer Beko have changed their manufacturer a couple of times and seem to go in cycles of being great value for money reliable machines and being cheap tat. The trick is knowing where they are in the cycle when you are buying.IvanOpinion said:I believe both Beko and Grundig are made by the same Turkish company (Arcelik)
Insurance is ultimately about exchanging the risk of a big loss in exchange for a guarantee of a small loss (aka the premiums). It really comes down to a personal assessment of the ratio of premiums against maximum loss (eg buying a new fridge or house) and the affordability if the worst happens and you dont have insurance.
I am fortunate and would be able to buy a new fridge or freezer if mine died without any significant hardship and personally the premiums are too high for the maximum loss in my book which is why I dont buy extended warranties and similar. On the other hand if a fire happened at home and all out contents was burnt to a crisp/melted then there is no chance I could afford to replace it all plus proportionally the premiums are much lower and so I do buy home contents insurance
I personally dont insure my white goods... I don't "self insure" which would technically mean formally putting money aside in a pot to cover claims1 -
Arcelik is owned by major Turkish industrial company Koc Holding.IvanOpinion said:We also have a Beko fridge in the garage - bought in 2007 and still working fine. Sits beside our Hotpoint fridge freezer that is over 25 years old now.

They sell under about 10 brand names including Flavel and Leisure as well as Grundig and Beko. For some reason they do not use the brand names Arcelik or Koc in the UK.2 -

Thanks very much. We have have done exactly that and got a full refund on the "insurance" after getting much positive feedback about Beko. Also a major factor was the potential hassle of if something goes wrong that you may have to study all the small print and get denied this, that and the other.HillStreetBlues said:They don't have to sell you the display model,
With the white goods insurance you have 45 days to change your mind and get a full refund (if you not made a claim)0
