Old payslip or any communication from DWP or HMRC?

The most helpful would be the Notice of Coding -  that will show any current Company Pension but not any which he may have paid into years ago but not started to draw

    Sorry for your loss.

Was your late husband in receipt of any benefits or a state pension?  Payments into bank account quote a reference that includes the NI number.

Did your late husband hold an ISA with any bank or building society?  If so the NI number will be included in their records and may appear in any paperwork.

    Hope that helps.

Was he employed as they would have his NI number.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

His NI number may not be as helpful as you hope. Try https://www.gretel.co.uk/find-lost-pensions and also (if you can remember the names of some or all of his former employers) https://www.gov.uk/find-pension-contact-details
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

How long ago was his passing and was he employed at the time? If it was very recent, contact his ex-employer and ask for a P45 (I assume you will get one, I don't know). It will have some information on at least to get you going as well.
May you find your sister soon Helli.
    Sleep well.
