Volvo Car Contract Hire Solicitors
Hi
I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this so please move if necessary.
I had a lease car from Volvo and the contract ran out nearly 12 months ago and the car was handed back. I have recently received a letter from them demanding £675 for excess mileage and damage to the car. I wasn't 100% sure of the mileage when handed back but if there was excess it was minimal. There was certainly only normal wear and tear to the car when handed back and I didn't sign for any damage when the car was picked up as I wasn't at home.
I have spoken to them and they have sent me the damage report where the total costs total up to £750 so I'm not sure where the £675 comes from.
They are threatening legal action so I suppose my question is where do I stand with this and will I have to pay??
Thanks in advance

You could always ask them for evidence of the damage? I know when I handed my car back the person collected the car & inspected the car with me & we both signed a document to say as much. I did see on the document that there was a picture of a car which would have allowed him to mark where any damage was & then pictures taken.
With regards to the mileage, did you put the car through an MOT?0 -
Unfortunately this is the risks of not being present for the handover inspection and having not noted the mileage etc.
You can ask them for evidence of the damage but when they send you a photo with say kerbing to alloys how are you going to prove that wasnt there when they collected the car?0 -
How long after is the damage report after you returned the car?
Get them to send photos taken at the time of inspection with timestamp.

At £675 for excess mileage and damage it’s likely to be fairly minor damage that you probably hadn’t noticed, or put down to ‘wear and tear’ and are in no position to dispute unless you took detailed photos of the car just before handover.
As above, kerbed alloys isn’t considered fair wear and tear, neither are car park dinks. Only reasonable to provide proof of this damage though. See what they come back with.0 -
are you saying that it's taken them a year to send you a demand for these damages since the car was returned to them?#
If so, I would insist on evidence in the form of detailed photos date stamped from the time the car was collected. How can you know what's happened to that car in all this time?
Unless of course I've missed the point and it hasn't been a 12 month delay in receiving this invoice?1 -
The fact its come from solicitors suggests there has been other correspondence that the OP "hasnt received"... its not normal practice for the first end of hire bill to come from a solicitortonygold said:are you saying that it's taken them a year to send you a demand for these damages since the car was returned to them?#
