Companies House late filing penalty against a dormant company which is being striken off

Some Background:
I set up a limited company a few years ago for a business which never came to fruition.

Over the past 3 years i've filed annual Dormant company accounts and the annual confirmation. This year however I decided to close the company down and have it striken off.

I applied to strike off on 1st May 2023 and it appeard in the First Gazette on 9th May 2023. Still waiting for the full strike off to complete.

On June 1st, I logged into companies house to check the progress of the strike off and it said i had overdue accounts to file. They were due on May 31st.
I assumed that by striking off the company I wouldnt have to file again so didnt think to check sooner.

Anyway.. I filled the late accounts immediately on June 1st.

On 8th June, I recieve a late filing penalty of £150. (Letter was dated 2nd June)

I've appealed this on 8th June stating that the company has been Dormant since incorporation, never traded, never had money in the bank and is in the process of being striken off.

The Due date on the penalty is 16th June, so I dont have long. I haven't heard back from the appeal yet.

My question:
Should I pay the penalty and try and claim back via the appeal, or can I ignore the penalty seeing as the company is being striken off?

I'd ignore it personally and let the company die. If companies house want the penalty they will challenge the strike off. Think the penalties are automatically generated. Companies House have struck off a friend's company because he didn't file compliance statements or accounts before.
