Am I missing something.

Why can't you accept the money to be transferred but also ask to see the accounts if you have a concern?

If everything is above board this shouldn't be an issue, it may be the amount to be paid is 16,054.34 but the sister says 16k because that's easier as you won't know exactly until the account is closed.

It's then up to your husband how he wishes to take it from then on, although why he should have to pay more than a chaps fee is a mystery to me since he has entered no contract with a solicitor to hold the funds and any fees are payable equally by the estate unless that firm handled the whole resolution of estate?
