Refunded buyer. Now item received.

Options
Hi All

As per the title really.

I had an INR case opened a few weeks ago and refunded buyer.

I was checking my postage receipts as I always send signed for and it shows this item was received last week.

I'm guessing my Royal Mail claim will be unsuccessful now.

I sent the buyer a polite message asking if they would like to repay but no reply.

Is there anything more I can do ?

Presuming the item isn't valuable enough to justify going to court over it then probably not. You can ask the buyer nicely to pay again or return the item and you can ask Ebay nicely if they are willing to do anything but there isn't really anything you can do if neither is willing to.

    Thanks for the reply.
    That's what I thought.
It's 30 odd quid so not worth chasing.
Would be nice to have an honest buyer though....

I mean you could certainly call their bluff and threaten them with court action to recover the item and see if that scares them. Only costs you a stamp.

    I have done this before.
    It worked.
  • had this happen to me as a buyer
item not recieved and refunded,  then turned up 2 weeks later, messaged seller no reply
a month or so later seller contacts me asking to pay for it,  replied saying no longer wanted and for them to send me a returns label,  6 months later still no label
and its sitting on the shelf gathering dust

would it be wrong to sell it?

You have NOT paid for item so it is not yours to sell.

If the seller ever comes back to them then they could just pay for it again, from the money made from selling it and everyone's all square.

The seller waiting a month when the buyer offered to pay again, clearly they weren't all that bothered about it.

You don’t require title in order to sell in such an instance.

Technically you should contact them twice and after that you can sell for a fair market price.

If the seller ever came looking you’d give them the money from the sale, minus the costs of selling (fees, postage).

The amount is key really, for £500 they are more likely to notice and have a legal avenue to chase the money.

For £5 there’s nothing they can do really.

As a business when this happened I would weigh up the item cost vs the return costs and headache for both me and the buyer and normally just write it off.

With the OP, as a private seller I would probably give the buyer a good nudge for £30, letter before action as a bluff (after they can’t leave feedback) would only cost a stamp.
