First Direct switch from Natwest Select Account.

Hi guys, quick query regarding NatWest Select Account and switching to First Direct.
I have what is a relatively dormant NatWest Select Account that I rarely use, I don’t have any DD’s going out of it, though I do have SO’s to transfer money from the Select account to the savings accounts I have with Nat West.
I am considering applying to switch to First Direct whilst the £175 switch offer is on. As the NW Select Account was the most basic of their accounts would it still be applicable? I could transfer regular payments into the FD account (when / if opened) from my regular Halifax account.

You can switch in from a Natwest select account if you want, it makes no difference to the switch whether the Natwest account is a select or reward account. As long as you do a full switch from Natwest into first direct and meet the terms of the offer you will be fine.

If you wanted to move payments from a Halifax account to first direct as well without closing Halifax it would probably be easiest to move these over manually.

One other thing I will say is that you can get a £30 Amazon voucher on top of the £175 if you apply through the MSE website:

That’s great, thank you so much. I didn’t want to jeopardise the switch if the NW Select was too basic an account and obviously no DD’s going out of it either.

Just to update, I have applied (through your link, thank you!) using my NatWest Select account and my application has been accepted. 😊.

Thank you so much for your original reply, you gave me the confidence to try it. X
  • OP, is the Select account your only current account with Natwest? If so, you may have problems with your NW savings accounts particulatly if they include the Digital Regular Saver.
To open a DRS you have to be a NW current account holder and there's a bit in NW's general savings T&Cs about downgrading accounts if you're no longer eligible. It's not specifically referring to the DRS but it could apply. Also, you can only withdraw from the DRS to a NW current account.
These potential problems could be overcome by opening a second NW current account or maybe you already have one and I'm creating problems where none exist  :)
    Just thought I'd mention it.
