Hi all

Ive bought 2 loganberry plants which I was intending to put into large pots.  However most of the online advice says loganberries need to go into the ground rather than pots.  Has anyone grown loganberries on here?

I have blueberries, raspberries, blackcurrants and a jostaberry in pots, they are doing well.  I also have some blackberries which were bred to go into hanging baskets :D  but I put them in pots and they are thriving.

I do have a small patch of ground which I can use if necessary

    Yes,

I’ve got a few. I did dig a small one up a couple of years ago and put it in a pot, but it really hasn’t done much in that time. They do make quite extensive root networks, so suspect they will struggle in pots. Hope you’ve got thornless ones, the thorns can be quite brutal.

years ago my mother had a prolific loganberry (bought in Woolworths!)

It was planted in the garden in a corner- fairly poor soil. Trained 'branches' against fence on each side and at the end of the season that was cut down whilst the new  branches were being trained in the same places.  had masses of fruit in full sun.  Freezer was filled with the yummy fruit!!

Can't help with the gardening bit but want to ask when you plan on making jam and how much you want for it.  It's my absolute favourite and can't find any for sale anywhere.  Well there's a local farm shop that sells one in tiddly pots but it has alcohol in it as well and I'm told I shouldn't be having that for breakfast.

I grew one years ago, thornless after a fashion. The thorns were more of a fuzz than prickles.
Trained against a fence, roots in the ground. It was always a good "do'er and supplied fruit without much work on my part.
I had to drape an anti bird net once fruit started ripening

Brie they used to drink beer with breakfast.
Always thought it would make everyone a lot happier and more relaxed if we got back to that.
The alchol should have boiled off in jam for sure. Don't listen to them.
Love a loganberry. Don't know why I don't grow them.

It’s my OHs favourite jam but it can be difficult to find.  We found an NT property in Devon which offered loganberry jam with its cream tea, he was in heaven  :).  I won’t be making jam, I’ll just enjoy the fruits.

Loganberry bushes can be quite hard to find.  I was wandering around our amazing but expensive garden centre this morning and happened to notice the loganberry bushes so I bought 2.   :)

From lapsing memory, I think they had a virus years back & a lot died out so maybe that is why, plus of course there are more modern hybrid berries, like the Tayberry which appears to be better, not tried so can't judge it
