Does the eBay algorithm downrate listings with FVF offers?

Maybe just a coincidence but I've had an item listed for quite a while (months) everytime the FVF offers come round and it hasn't sold.

This time I let it auto relist and while normally I would delist it and wait for the next offer I didn't bother this time as I was away. And surprise surprise I get a bid on it within 24 hours.

What do we reckon? Coincidence? eBay algorithm downrating the listings they make less money on? Something else?

Private listings are supposedly always ranked below those of business sellers (although I’m not sure that is always the case) so I suppose there’s a possibility that those with FVF offers are even further down . I suspect though that no one, not even eBay, know how their algorithms work.

In my experience they aren't that clever to do that. They actually prefer that stuff sells.
Chances are that if you list when there's a fee offer there'll be more active listings when there isn't an offer you'll have less competition.

Back in the day when there was free listing offers, I tended to sell more a day or two after they'd all finished.

Quite possibly just a coincidence but I've decided to leave my straggly stuff that hasn't sold for months as an experiment anyway. Ebay fees without the FVF offers are ridiculous though. Hardly makes it worth selling some of the stuff.
