Comparing solicitors' charges for conveyancing

Options
I notice that there are several online companies claiming to offer a 'comparison' search for conveyancing legal fees à la moneysupermarket etc.

Has anyone ever used these and what has been the experience? They seem to be asking very quickly for personal contact details, which makes me a mite suspicious.

You need to look beyond the quoted fee, at the conveyancer's  terms of reference.

Some coveyancers (particularly the online warehouses) quote cheap fees to attract business, but exclude various tasks which are added as 'extras'. Often things that need doing and decent conveyancers include as standard. eg

    * submitting the SDLT return to HMRC
    * dealing with mortgage lender and/or freeholder
    * even office-type costs eg photocopying!

Cheapest is not always (often isn't) best..

And not everyone uses comparison sites to seek out the absolute cheapest...

... added to which, my experience of such sites is that the best ones generally tell you what the quote actually includes...
