Boosting my partners credit rating by adding her to an old account of mine

Hi,

I want to boost my partners credit history as currently she has next to nothing.  

If I add her to one of my oldest accounts such as one of my mortgages/bank account or phone contract.  Will she then have all the length of age or would it start at month 1?

I have accounts over 10 years old.  Surely adding her to one of these accounts would give her a tremendous track record if they include all my payment history for her.

It surely wouldn't.

She can establish her own history easily enough. It doesn't need you to take out joint mortgages or bank accounts to achieve it, unless you're desperate to do so (ie you won't be able to remortgage in your sole name and need her income).  But if she has minimal credit history, then you'd be risking being declined by making joint applications.

It would be far simpler for her to apply for one of the credit-builder credit cards, use it for routine purchases and repay in full every month.  This is a free and simple way to start building up a favourable history.

There is no silver bullet to instantly generate history, it's just a case of showing that you can use credit responsibly over a decent period of time.
