Travel insurance - big family holiday

We are just about to book a big holiday for 3 separate families and we each have our own annual travel insurance. I wondered if me booking the trip for everyone posed any potential problems if one family had to cancel and claim on their insurance when it wasn't them who booked it.
We can all book it separately if needs be, it's just a bit more of a pain.

Your scenario wouldnt be an issue, its the traveller that claims for their losses not the booker of the holiday.
The main issue with having separate policies is that if family A pulls out as person A1 has a preexisting diagnosed condition then A can claim for all of them cancelling (assuming they've made the proper declarations etc) but family B and C wouldnt be able to cancel.
If it was A1 had been hit by a car instead then A, B and C could cancel on their respective insurances.
So as long as each family group is happy to continue the trip if others pull out then this arrangement is fine. If B or C want to be able to pull out if A1 gets ill then you would need to buy a Group insurance policy.
The only other minor consideration is that policies can vary and so if you're delayed 24hrs family B's insurance may give cash for the delay itself plus the loss of the hotel etc whereas A and C's more budget policy only covers the loss of the hotel. Have known silly things like this to cause bad blood/family arguments etc1
