And why, exactly, would less use make them “more susceptible to tyre ageing”, rather than the reverse?

    I just does ;)

They often develop flat spots as they don't move for months at a time, and that might promote cracking in that area.
Most caravan tyres get changed through ozone & UV exposure causing severe cracking through old age rather than wearing out
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Its a quote from the Kwik Fit website, I guess its true. They seem to say only start checking them for cracking, when they are six years old, the OPs tyres are five years old.

he has "training that allows him to see inside the tyre".

I would like to think that if I had such super-hero powers, I could find something more worthwhile to do with the unique skill.

Then again, maybe the skill is not that unique but KwikFit are training so many tyre fitters with the skill and they are bound to stay with the company for a period of time before they can leave to save the world.

I wonder what training is offered at Halfords, National Tyres, F1 Auto-Centres, ATS?
If they all offer a super-hero power, I wonder if I could work for them all in sequence for 6 months or a year each and by the end of that I'd be the comic-book champion  :D

Because they aren't getting worn out and replaced they stay on longer.

Distortion due to all the weight being on a single point long term. On a car that moves, it'll (usually) be a different part of the tyre in contact with the ground every time you stop.  Wheels that aren't used tend not to have their pressures monitored and thus it the distortion can be made even worse.

    Distortion, yes. But ageing?

At this point he knew, that I knew he was lying but still refused to acknowledge it  :D

Just a quick update, had another MOT today at a more reputable garage and it passed.
I also had the tyres inspected by another garage on route, both said they were fine.

Just awaiting a response from dvsa and will complain to kwikfit head office.
