Coincidentally they just responded: 'We do also try to remind every customer to enter their registration but sometimes over busy weekends this isnt always the case so sorry for not reminding you.

If you contact smart parking who have issued the fine the proof of purchase they will void this off for you. '

Smart parking already rejected the appeal and it doesn't seem they're willing to contact them themselves.

Just try again, sending them that response plus your proof of purchase. But, be ready for Smart to say, 'Sorry, we've already passed to DRP'. That could offer an opportunity to complain to the BPA. But, you're still safe to ignore it all.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

Send the landowner the rejection email from Smart and say that's not what their agent is doing, so you expect them to insist that Smart cancel this one.

Otherwise you will hold this business liable, given they've admitted in writing that they are responsible by saying "sorry we forgot to tell you" and admitted that when it's busy the stupid system gets overlooked by their staff.
