Known traveller number

Just booked flights to US with KLM and they're looking for our known traveller number. Not heard of it before and travelled to the US in January this year ( with British Airways) and wasn't asked for one. Is this a new thing. Googling it is confusing me even more.
Thank you

Do you have Global Entry? if so your KTN should be on the back of your Global Entry card.
If you don't have Global Entry, can you leave the box blank or add 'n/a'?

Cheers. I don't have one but KLM are insisting I need one. I think it's crossed wires somewhere
