Jury Service

Hi.
This is my first ever post on a Forum and so not sure if I've posted to the best section.
My husband is a self employed driving instructor and has been called for Jury Service next week. He will be there for 2 weeks but has been advised he could be called for a trial lasting up to 5 weeks.
He has been advised he can claim approx £65, per day if he is at the court for more than 4 hours in the first 2 weeks. This will then increase if jury service lasts more than 2 weeks.
I just want to know if he can claim for loss of earnings as well and if so, what information would he have to provide. I know very little about self assessment, but have looked at his records and the last tax return filed was for year 21 / 22, when he earnings were reduced due to Covid.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Jury service is a civic duty, the £65 is to cover the loss of earnings, its not a payment for doing responsibilities. There is also a small mount you can claim for good and an unfixed amount for commuting to the court.
Some business insurances include additional payments for jury service to top up the £65/day1
