That's my understanding too. My Nan went into hospital early Dec 2014, discharged to a 'rehabilitation unit' Xmas Eve 2014, during her stay there was assessed as not being able to return to her home and went into a care home 14 Feb 2015. Was a self funder as she had a property to sell but those first few weeks in addition to the hospital stay and the rehabilitation unit were free. Either that has changed or something has gone wrong somewhere.elsien said:You need to contact the local authority financial assessment department. It sounds like they carried out a financial assessment for home care, and if he was assessed as being a self funder for home care, finance limits are the same as for residential care so he would very likely have been a self funder for both. Did he have capacity around his finances, and might he have signed the relevant paperwork himself? Although I thought there was a disregard for the first few weeks, but stand to be corrected on that.https://www.ageuk.org.uk/information-advice/care/paying-for-care/paying-for-a-care-home/
Formal complaint to the local authority if you’re not getting any proper answers.
