Thank you. This is going to be a long one. I saved all that information.
The phone number is now Holly & Co, there's little point in ringing it, since I emailed them.
This is a trip down memory lane, but it may also be the basis of something more substantial, like a short story or something, if I can work out who was at the end of that line, circa 1966, when I would have been 10 or 11 years old.
In about 1966, there was an advertisement in a paper or magazine [London publication? / unknown], asking for people to ring that number, in order to speak to someone from the popular music industry of that day, someone associated with - or even the 'pop group' themselves. Intriguing to a 10 year old, when their parents are out. However, the phone just rang and rang, there was never any reply. I've been curious about that 'POP' number it ever since.1 -

Well, I found the original number in a 1966 London telephone directory, POPesgrove 1234. I can post it here because the modern equivalent in not recognised by BT.
The number belonged to an unmarried lady who was born in 1907, it's an Isleworth number, covered by the Popes Grove exchange code.
By 1970, she'd had the 1234 changed to 5432, probably due to the ad.
The ad appeared in the music press / a fanzine publication, unknown - it will probably be out there, somewhere, in a publication archive.
But I don't need to go there - I found the number, the number which rang & rang, with no answer - in 1966.
Out of interest, the new number code became 01-898, then 0181-898, subsequently 0208-898.
It looks like there were several codes covering the Popes Grove area.0
