Home Emergency Insurance / Homeserve

Looking at the home emergency that you get as standard or add on's with home insurance.
So if I was to take out a policy say with homeserve cover for plumbing / electrics, which offer better cover limits, but already have emergency cover, does this matter?
So if I make a claim through homeserve, will they ask if I have cover elswhere.
Do I only have homeserve only with no emergency cover? or can you have home emergency and homeserve?

You can have as many policies as you want but make sure you're not doubling up cover and wasting your money

So, I have emergency cover from my home insurance provider.
And I have a homeserve policy for plumbing (because the limits are greater and offer extras like seized / dripping taps ), and lets say I have a scenario where I have a burst pipe, who would I call?
My home emergency cover or homeserve?

No I only have home emergency and wouldn't double up insurance it's such a waste of money.

You phone whichever one covers this particular problem with the smallest excess.

Or you don't bother spending money on either, and just call out whoever can come quickest. I would save insurance for stuff which you couldn't otherwise afford.

Having had the experience of a Homeserve gas engineer who came to a boiler fault whilst it was under warranty, I wouldn't call them out ever.

Years ago my grandmother had a similar issue when they came to fix a blocked drain.  It was never actually fixed by them.

Cancel the policy and use the money saved to pay any shortfall with your other policy.
  • Homeserve now want £250 pa,  Do I need it.  Home insurance emergency costs  £50.  Comments suggest I am wasting my money.  I am dithering.
