I want to get a 0% purchases card so I can use the money in my bank to pay towards my mortgage, is this a wise move considering my mortgage is coming up for renewal?

You have about 6months so if no other credit checks are needed (includes switching current accounts, utility providers, phone contracts…) that side should be ok. What the mortgage provider will think of the CC debt you create I cannot say. I've had 2 mortgages go through whilst carrying £6k ish of 0% debt, in my case the lenders weren’t put off (enough) for it to make a difference how close it took me to the affordability threshold I couldn't say.
The other option that may be appropriate for you would be to use the 0% to put money in a decent interest instant access account ~3.8% which should be more than your current mortgage, you will then have the option to clear the debt if needed in 6months having made a small profit or if the mortgage will go through use what you have spare to overpay the mortgage if rates are higher than savings, or continue to save then make overpayments when interest rates no longer favour savings.
As always self control is key creating a 0% debt you cannot pay back in time will cost far more than mortgage savings.

If you are just doing a rate switch with current lender. They can do it with no financial info required.
Did mine in Feb. Current deal ends in July. Got another deal at same rate as the current one for another 5 years. I form to sign & all sorted.
