Disability benefit no longer available ?

Before my Mother passed , she was eligible for disability benefits etc , inc Motability. My Father is now classed as disabled but because he is over 65 years old , all I can get for him is attendance allowance.
He has the full state pension and a private pension , but I would like to do more for him.

Apparently even PIP is not available.
It seems strange that my Mother had a legacy benefit , but my Father cant get it too .

All advice welcome

Thank you

PIP can only be claimed while below pension age but will continue to be paid after pension age if previously awarded. For a new disability benefit claim after pension age (currently 66) the claim has to be for Attendance Allowance is can only be claimed after pension age.

Can PIP or AA are legacy benefits, the term ‘legacy’ refers to income based working age benefits which are being replaced by UC.

Both PIP and AA are disability benefits.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

If you feel it wrong that the post SPA disability benefit (AA) does not have a mobility element, then raise this with your MP and the S of S for the DWP (Mel Stride).
Alice Holt Forest situated some 4 miles south of Farnham forms the most northerly gateway to the South Downs National Park.

AA does not have a mobility component. Many older people who are on DLA will continue to get a mobility component as well as those who were on PIP before reaching state retirement age. To be honest if they had a mobility component for Attendance allowance virtually every pensioner would qualify for it at some point which I guess is why it isn't introduced.

Sadly that is very true.  I live in sheltered housing.  There are 33 of us ranging from 57 - 96.  Most have mobility issues ranging from slight (that’s me :D ) to quite bad.
