28 working days to return my 500 euro deposit for car hire

I don’t think 28 days to return your deposit in this scenario is unreasonable. The car will be fully checked over for damage etc before they release it.Even if it was unreasonable, any action available to you wouldn’t get you your money back sooner.0

Quite often companies say up to X days just to cover themselves in the event things take longer than normal.
It doesn't necessarily mean you'll have to wait a month.0 -
OP was told it would take 28 working days, which is closer to a month and a half - it's true that it won't necessarily take that long but in the scenario where the company are falsely asserting that the timescale is due to banks, it's hard not to be sceptical about the prospects of swift settlement!tightauldgit said:Quite often companies say up to X days just to cover themselves in the event things take longer than normal.

Isn't that what ALL companies say? They're unlikely to say 'in the event that we don't get round to processing it quickly'eskbanker said:

I don't recall any company blatantly lying like that to me about reasons for quoted timeframes - many will offer timescales but rarely feel the need to explain these in my experience.tightauldgit said:

Whether it is morally wrong or not is an utter irrelevance. In reality there is absolutely nothing you can do to force them to return your money any more quickly than they decide to do.
