Chip app

Hi guys,
I registered for chip savings account.
downloded the app and it says I have to connect to my bank account, in this case Santander…..where in puts you through your online banking details, security number and password etc
are there any risks with this, can’t say I feel very comfortably allowing an app to access my details though my online banking via both security numbers and password?
thanks

Are you sure it’s not the Santander app/website that’s asking for your Santander credentials? What exactly is happening when you try to connect your bank account?0

There is no risk. This is a normal procedure for open banking. Chip app directs you to Santander to authorise the connection and then it should take you back to Chip to complete the connection. As AmityNeon said, it is Santander asking for your credentials.mayweather said:Hi guys,

One thing I've noticed with the open banking and TrueLayer tech that Chip uses: when I use it to deposit money in Chip (and, I think, when I withdraw it), the process brings up a completely blank screen on my phone (which turns out to be a blank web browser screen). This is quite off-putting; after staring at it for several seconds, you have to conclude that it's not going to do anything else, tap the 'back' control on your phone, and it will then bring up a screen where it says the transfer is happening. Not at all intuitive, and something you'd really think would have been fixed.0

I agree, the UI is not the slickest. I don't remember seeing a blank web browser screen when I use Chip to transfer money in, but when looking in the web browser I've found 5-6 blank tabs, which were obviously created by the Chip/TrueLayer process. Not a major problem and something I can live with, but it might put some people off using the app.'Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it; he who doesn’t, pays it' - Albert Einstein.0

Get the blank page on Ipad's, click open and funds are withdrawn or deposited.

Similar problem with depositing by card. You have to go to chip then back to the other page and click 'I have approved in the app' but a lot of the time the page reloads to a blank page so there is nothing to click anymore and you can't continue the process. You can try again how ever many times you want and it will do it every time. You have to just give up and try again later. The app really is coded together with duct tape.EthicsGradient said:One thing I've noticed with the open banking and TrueLayer tech that Chip uses: when I use it to deposit money in Chip (and, I think, when I withdraw it), the process brings up a completely blank screen on my phone (which turns out to be a blank web browser screen). I just use faster payments from my bank into Chip, much easier.Zaul22 said:

Yes the faster payments work fine, I just use card payments a few times for roundups. I also just noticed you can essentially do savings pots by using the goal system and allocating money to goals. While the money is technically still all in one pot, functionally the result is same as using Zopa/Virgin Moneys pot systems. Trying to use the system give constant red error messages at the bottom of the app. Good features, if only they actually worked reliably.0
