What will happen when our fixed tariff ends?

Just need a heads up really. Our 2 year fixed energy tariff with British gas will end mid july , few weeks away. Am i right in thinking they will just automatically put us onto a variable tariff?  on their site it says there are not many fixed tariffs out there.
As far as im aware ,they have not contacted us about it.
I will phone them to ask  but just wanted a heads up really.
The past 2 years being on the fixed tariff  we've been very lucky , only paying about 50 a month. Generally speaking,  If we're put on a variable, we'll be paying more???
Sorry if this is obvious , I just find it a bit confusing
thanks

Your monthly payment is not important.  Energy is not an all-you-can-eat buffet.

The unit price and standing charge is important.

Find out what they are on your fix, and find out what they will be on the SVT.  That will tell you how much more expensive it will be.  Could be a lot.
  • Similar situation but our fixed rate ends June 26th. We are with eon and our options are go onto the standard variable tariff or fix for 12 months (not sure what fix options are available with British gas)

Our current bills for gas/elec are around 86 a month

Both the svt and fixed rate are coming back at around 126 a month. I did post on here about whether we should fix now or wait to see what other deals are available but have decided to just lock the rate in and see what happens in 12 months
