Recommendations for Car hire - Cancun Airport

Hello,

Please can anyone recommend a company for car hire from Cancun Airport. I've been trawling through and worryingly so many of the companies have such low ratings and terrible reviews! Has anyone had a good experience with a company that they'd recommend please?

What research did you do? Reviews from the Americas or from the UK? They will have completely differing scenarios.
Americans often have some insurances supplied via their plastic and so don't add CDW etc during the booking process. They often get a horrible shock when told they have to put the full value of the car as a deposit on their CC. 
Book via the UK and CDW/LDW is automatically included, so we only have to put the excess amount payable in the event of an incident; perhaps the equivalent of up to US$1500. Without it, expect perhaps US$15,000. So they have the choice of putting that US$15k on their CC if they have a high enough limit or they have to pay the car hire company for CDW or CDW/Super CDW in order to take the car. That can easily be an extra US$500 on a two week rental. So they wouldn't be happy.
Different scenario for UK based bookings.
So have a CC ready, the same you used to hold the booking. In addition it is advisable to have your own back up insurance to cover any other possible eventualities. For example, to reimburse any excess amount that you have to pay out of your pocket in the event of an incident. Buy it BEFORE you are due to collect the car. Afterwards will be too late.

There should be some basic Third Party liabilty insurance included in any UK based booking. Double check as to what that amount will be. I think with Hertz it's US$46,000. But strangely, it isn't indicated at all when making a booking.

Surprised you'd find many reviews at all from UK people... Quintana Roo is one of those places that the majority seem to just go to their hotel and stay there or maybe just book a day trip to the pyramids and a cenote.

We've never bothered with a car but then we dont stay in a hotel, wife is a native Spanish speaker and so we get near local rates on taxis and buses
