Running my new 1 bed flat

You can even make a good case for not using the top one - just boil a kettle when you wash upmotinter said:
I think the bottom element is 2.7kW and the top is 3kW.Robin9 said:2 10kW showers 15 mins each = 5 kWh.
Immersion has 3 kW for 2 hours = 6 kWh (as you don't have E7 switch off the bottom element)
So only use the top one?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Thanks - I'll try running the bottom one for an hour in the morning before I wake up to see how that goes.Robin9 said:

I was suggesting you don't use either the bottom or the top - just a kettle.motinter said:

The top may be higher rated but its on far shorter and heating far less water, as your not on E7 heating the full tank with either or both will use more energy. If the shower is fed from the tank then the top for 20min may do fine for your use.If you own the flat then installing night storage heaters and going to E7 is likely the way to go.0

Now is the time to evaluate what sort of heating you've got - if you dont have e7 and just electric radiators or even worse a flow boiler then winter is going to be pretty painful from an energy cost point of view.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0

You need a strategy. If you own the property, High Heat Retention NSHs are probably the least worst option. Not cheap to install but much lower running costs on E7, and they'll make the property more attractive and easier to sell when the time comes. If you rent, then consider moving, preferably to somewhere with gas CH or at least HHR NSHs.0
