phone trade in samsung fold screen crack

So i pruchased a galaxy fold 3 from amazon 14 months ago... I wanted to trade up to a new galaxy s23 ultr like i have... Samsung gave me a £400 trade in again my fold Galaxy 3 .... after getting new and returning old to samsung they are saying i have a crack on the fold 3 screen which i have never seen.

They included a photo and it looks like there could be one on the fold of the screen .... they want me to pay a extra £150 after spending £900 on a new phone with them.

I am seeking advise as if a folding screen is showing a wear and tear crack after only 14 months would that not be a not fit for purrpose thing ?

I would appretiate and help.... thanks Pinky

After 14 months your never going to convince anyone its a wear and tear thing, screens don't crack due to wear and tear

You have sent a phone to them with a cracked screen, you don't have much defence other than blaming them.

Not sure what they would do about it at this stage though, small claims wouldn't be worth their while which only really leaves them blocking the phone or closing your account. I'm not even sure they can block the phone as its usually the network operator than can do that. Although being i Samsung that sold you it they probably would be able to block the IMEI

You're conflating two matters here.  The first is a dispute with Samsung over the condition and value of the traded-in handset.  The second is a consumer rights matter relating to faulty goods  that would need taking up with Amazon as the original retailer.

One option is to ask Samsung for the old handset back, then pursuing Amazon (not Samsung) for a remedy for what you believe is a handset that wasn't fit for purpose.  If you were successful, Amazon would have to repair, replace or partially refund you.  You could then sell the repaired phone, sell the replacement, or sell the currently cracked phone and put the money plus the partial refund towards the cost of your new phone.

Given all the faff that would involve, I'd be inclined to see if you can negotiate a slightly better price with Samsung for the cracked phone, or just accept it's worth £150 less than originally thought.

You do know what a Galaxy fold 3 is?
There have been massive problems with premature failures of those flexible screens.

After having bought some super expensive premium appliances from Samsung, and Samsung phones for about 10 years I now won't order Samsung anything.  If something goes wrong, trying to deal with Samsung customer services even for a very simple problem meant I made this promise to myself lol.  I did read about problems with the fold screens right from the moment the fold phones were released, so doubly worth giving them a miss.  When I was sending a phone off for money, I took extensive photos and these were very useful when  the company concerned tried to say the phone had serious cracks etc.  I did manage to get them to increase the amount they offered considerably.
